Quimper

Today we had a slow start to the day, which was nice. After a leisurely breakfast  our guide gave us an introduction to the history and culture of Brittany. After lunch a local guide took us on a walking tour of Quimper. We spent some time in the cathedral hearing about its history and recent €50 million renovation. Then he took us on a tour of the local museum which had artfacts from prehistoric times to the mid- 20th century. I especially liked seeing the elaborate Breton wedding dresses. The embroidery was fantastic and usually done by men.

A few of us went to a local crepe roe for dinner and each had both a savory crepe, made with buckwheat, and a sweet crepe which is more like we make at home. The savory was almost too flaky to eat, and very salty. The dessert crepe had ice cream and apples.  Yum!

Tomorrow is very full as we travel out to the western tip of Brittany overlooking the ocean.
